OUTLAW by MOONGA K.
The new EP, OUTLAW, from the genre-fluid artist, MOONGA K., marks a powerful reinvention of the country genre, blending its traditional Americana and folk roots with the eclectic sounds of funk, hip-hop, electronica, rock, blues and soul.
This EP isn’t just a musical exploration—it’s a reclamation, a statement of identity, and a journey through a rich cultural history that has long been overlooked in mainstream country music. At its core, this EP draws on the deep historical connection between African rhythms and country music and pays homage to the Black cowboys of the 19th century, who were instrumental in shaping the American West, yet have often been erased or minimized in the country music narrative. These cowboys—many of whom were formerly enslaved individuals—played a vital role in ranching, cattle herding, and the pioneering spirit of the country, and their contributions are now celebrated with reverence through MOONGA K.’s new project.
With all songs written by MOONGA K., and produced by himself, UK-based producer, Hannah V and burgeoning music prodigy, Ryan Marshall, OUTLAW provides unique perspectives through a Black queer lens through which MOONGA K. blends elements that have traditionally been separated by genre, time, and culture.
