“Shiv” is, in prison slang, a kind of handmade, rough knife. We started to create this music from the Alan Lomax’s live recordings made in Mississippi and Louisiana state penitentiary; that was the trailhead for a deep travel into the themes of isolation, real and self created cages, discrimination, freedom, redemption. The music was recorded at home during the COVID 19 lockdown, it’s quite rough and intends to be sharp, like a shiv.
