Why do there exist different distinct professions in world of creating music? Simple. Because there are many steps to creating what is considered a finished musical project. These steps are fundamentally different and therefor require fundamentally different skill sets. Composer, recording engineer, arranger, producer, mixing engineer, mastering engineer, manager, promoter, publisher. There is nothing wrong with this. The problems occur when people step outside of their profession WITHOUT the experience/abilities to do so. Some people have multiple skill sets. Some don’t. When those who don’t, step outside of their profession, it always causes problems. Like a promoter or publisher trying to produce. Or a producer trying to compose. Or a composer trying to mix. Most people do not possess multiple skill sets because some of the skill sets in music are diametrically apposed to each other. The nature of composing for example, usually runs contrary to the nature of many of the other skill sets.
