Rise by Mick Chillage

"Rise" is a collection of three improvisational piano based pieces that were first composed in late 2023 & early 2024.

The title track "Rise" was inspired by an early morning walk on a super crisp December morning. As I left my house and looked across the park the sun was rising and a mist was carpeting the grass as the sun thawed frost that had fallen over night.

I took a photo as there was something magical about the stillness in the air & how the sun cast shadows of the leafless winter trees across the frosted green.

Shortly after my walk I decided to load up my kit and played around with an improvised passage that became the foundation for "Rise"

I returned to the piece in the New Year to arrange further and add additional musical parts and textures & from this I was inspired some more & "Reassurance" came about as I took a break from the arranging of "Rise" this new piece seemed to fit well with the themes that had developed although compositionally they both felt very distinct.

Feb 2024 I was out and about with my Zoom recorder in a local forest and captured some recordings, it also was a very sunny day and beams of light stretched across the forest. I got home and listened to the field recordings and immediately began to play some piano keys over the recordings along with some dramatic ambient tones & strings.

Naturally this became "Forest Light" I now had what I felt like was a new piano based ambient album.
