FLOATING by New Vocal Music Collective Melos, Contemporary Music Ensemble Apartment House

FLOATING is an intentionally ambiguous album title, symbolizing not only the act of floating or gliding but also themes of impermanence and change. Three young composers—Jack Sheen (UK), Juta Pranulytė (LT-AT), and Liepa Vozgirdaitė (LT-DE)—were invited to explore and interpret this concept.

What unites these creators is their shared focus on unusual textures, timbres, spatiality, and the aesthetics of reduced (or minimal) music.

The composers developed the idea of Floating using the following instrumentation: eight female voices, cello, harmonium, various percussion instruments/objects, and electronics.

The album also includes the piece und dennoch mir geschieht by Austrian composer Klaus Lang, written for the Melos Collective in 2023.
