Plastic Veneer
If somebody says it long enough
everyone will think it so
and so it is for aging warriors
and the emperor with no clothes
I believe this dusty stack of illusion
must be packed and stowed
so it goes for unknown composers
who no longer have the spirit to compose
All I can say is
what’s inside I hold dear
the foundation is delusion
the glue is made of tears
entry is forbidden
you can’t get passed here
this ever mighty façade of thin
plastic veneer
If somebody says it loud enough
everyone will surely hear
over the rumble of the masses
above the grinding of the gears
but, I believe this yelling contest
has finally drained me of my voice
or so it goes for little boys who finally grow up
against their choice
repeat chorus
If somebody says it real enough
the truth must surely shine
even passed the darkness of this melancholy mind
there’s a falcon with a fading hope
still looking at the sky
standing on the precipice
without the will to fly
All I can say is
that this empire’s made of air
the fountains are confusion
the river’s wind nowhere
the gate is ever guarded
though the contents disappeared
through this impervious façade of thin
plastic veneer
All I can say is
what’s inside I held dear
the foundation was illusion
the glue was made of tears
entry was forbidden
nothing could adhere
to that ever mighty facade of thin
plastic veneer
