Those who’ve kept their ears tuned to the innovative underground have likely stumbled upon the tribalistic, psychedelic, and focused sounds of Auckland-based producer Eli Høff. Melekan is no exception. Melding traditional psychedelic textures with the deep, introspective palette of the contemporary mental tekno movement, the album constructs a fully immersive world. Synthesised insects chatter, unseen creatures wail, and natural percussive echoes ripple across locked-in low-end grooves, hallmarks of Høff’s hypnotic approach.

Inspired by the bush and doof scenes of Aotearoa and Australia, Melekan feels both ancient and immediate. Its sound suggests a forest alive with ritual: bass hits like the footsteps of larger entities, birdlike chirps flitting through branches, and strange conversations drifting in the wind.
