Positronic by Marsha and the Positrons

Positronic is the first full-band album by Marsha and the Positrons. It features a number of celebrated and Grammy®-nominated kindie (kids independent) artists. Legendary children’s performer Barry Louis Polisar (5-time Parents’ Choice Award winner, featured on the Juno soundtrack), lent his voice to "Giant & Colossal Squid," a fun and upbeat song that teaches about the title creatures while suggesting dance moves for the listener. Polisar also sings on "Alien in an Ambulance," a new twist on the alphabet song that pairs a creature with a vehicle for each letter of the alphabet while telling a story about friends that like to use their imaginations together. Lori Henriques (Grammy®-nominated artist) played piano for "Birdsong," a jazzy call-and-response that takes listeners through the seasons as it lets them imagine singing along with the birds. Billy Kelly (Grammy®-nominated artist) played guitar and sang backup on "The Ore Song," a punk-inspired riff on the homophones ore-oar-or, with a subtle message about friendship, a simple but catchy singalong chorus, and an invitation to dance. Kelly also created the colorful retro-style graphic design for the album artwork and band logo.

Like Marsha Goodman-Wood’s award-winning debut solo effort, Gravity Vacation, this record features fun songs about science and how the world works. "Positrons" is about the sub-atomic particle from which the band takes its name— and the song was even fact-checked by two NASA scientists! "Hey Pluto" uses a a 60’s rock flair to talk about Pluto's change in status from a planet to a dwarf planet, how it might feel about that change, and how no one should be defined by their label. The rockabilly-infused "Meow, Meow, Achoo" is inspired by Marsha’s cat, who actually has allergies and sneezes a lot, and it provides a parallel for kids with allergies. The cover of kindie artist Lucas Miller's terrific "The Monarch Butterfly Song," about the life cycle of the monarch and its migration pattern, features Ford Combs’ fantastic Bossanova-tinged guitar stylings and the brass of the record’s accomplished producer and indie rocker TJ Lipple (Aloha). Another cover closing the record is a version of indie rock band Mates of State's "Now," switching up the subject matter to talk about crossing the street, but without skimping on the indie rock experience as the strains of Ford’s electric guitar feedback echo to the very end.
