WyndSpring by Lyberarchelulo

WyndSpring is Lyberarchelulo’s sophomore album. The anchoring sound of the collection of songs comes from a rudimentary bamboo marimba made by Gibbens. The songs are all composed extemporaneously and are generally more jazz infused than the debut album. Gibbens recorded the vast majority of his parts in April of 2023, playing responsively to the sustained winds that were blowing through East Tennessee that month.

Patrick Taylor, Erin Dalton, Taylor Green, and Tandy Fleming all return to contribute with intuitive musicianship. Additionally the album features collaborations with Amythyst Kiah on guitar and banjo, Isaac Ratliff on piano, James West on electric and classical guitars, Zach Chandley on trumpet and guitar, and Derrick Vaz on bass.

Field recordings play an important role in a number of WyndSpring’s pieces. The haunting, ethereal sounds of a train echoing through the Breaks canyon near the Virginia-Kentucky border are featured on The Breaks Rethought. Part 1 of Gusts of April’s Fool is arranged over a recording of the territorial chirps of Eastern Towhees. Course Park Humms Electric features a strange buzz that emanated from the baseball fields during an outing at the adjacent disc golf course at Persimmon Ridge in Jonesborough, TN. The last track, but he did not hear Him in the storm, is accompanied by early morning rain, thunder and birdsong (and if one listens closely, one will hear the mighty roar of a fluffy gray cat calling down the track’s final crack of thunder).
