Items Unsold by Loic J Tuckey
Items Unsold is a collection of studio jams and demo recordings by Loic J Tuckey. The music was recorded sometime between 2013 and 2020 and features contributions from members of Cowtown, Nope, Nightflowers, Buzz Lightyear, Wooderson and Unholy Shrines.
Each tune has been salvaged from the wreckage of a broken hard drive. Some were recorded using basic room microphones while others benefit from slightly more advanced studio treatment. In each case, several or all of the raw files were lost, ensuring the tracks could not be worked on further.
Loic: “As unappealing as a batch of half-written, under-produced studio sessions initially sounds, these hard drive relics are interesting to me. They serve as the only remaining evidence from several nights of studio fun, where we’d committed to some idea or other with a view to working on them some more.
“Over time, I’ve done one of several things; broken the hard drive and lost the raw files. Copied the wrong files to a safer hard drive. Deleted the files outright. So be it.
“Nevertheless, these tough old WAVs made it through the mire to survive my haphazard approach to digital safety. So it seems only right to have them fulfil their destiny as another addition to the dusty shelf that is my online back catalogue.”
If you dig muddy, unbalanced mixes of half-improvised jams, you’ll enjoy Items Unsold. Among the muck are some great performances from excellent musicians, so it’s not all doom and gloom after all.
