Capture by Liam Chapin

Sonically inspired by the winding, long-form compositions of Joni Mitchell's "Hejira" and the lush, electronics-laden atmospheres of Sufjan Stevens's "The Age of Adz," the latest release from singer-songwriter-producer Liam Chapin is a study in historical iconography, the private lives of public figures, and what it means to leave a legacy. Throughout the album's hour-long runtime, ruminations stretch out over subject matter spanning throughout history, from the tumultuous life of actor Anthony Perkins ("Anthony, Lamplit") to Shakespeare's As You Like It ("Touchstone," "Capture (Ganymede / Preservation)"). But the album's course remains steady, all building towards the record's finale "Featherlight," Chapin's take on a tender piano ballad in which he asks, "Which words will outlive me when I'm ready to go?/ Will I have a choice in which voice my heart sings in?"
