Slow Mover by Leonard Powell

Slow Mover took a while to make. I wrote these songs mostly on my first acoustic guitar, which serendipitously came into my life the Christmas before Covid hit (thanks mum & dad). Some of the tracks date back to 2020, some were written when I was working and travelling across America in 2021. Age was written in MIQ when I got back. Parallel Parking Phobia was written during a covid isolation period in our flat. There is lawnmower in the back of it somewhere.

Meeting Tom Broome was a stroke of good luck, and I'm glad my out of the blue DM was answered. Over 2 years since we met, here I am putting this project out. Our first session we did a version of Adam (which was way too slow & never made the cut) and then sat at his drum kit, me on my acoustic, him tapping along, going through the rest of the songs. I could barely play them from start to finish at that time, but the bones were there. I'm glad its taken as long as its taken. I'll forever have fond memories of long days in Toms studio in New Lynn, chipping away at songs, popping across to the mall for Bahn Mi, cups of tea. A true legend.

The tracks wouldn't be the same without some amazing friends who lent their skills to flesh out the songs. Big big big shoutouts to James Finlay, Tom Taylor, Eric Holcolm, Taine Buchan, Jack Alexander and Reuben Brooks. Also to my friends and family that gave me the encouragement to see this thing out. Kate, Matthew, Adam, Bellamy, Mum Dad Garth & Digby, Nick, Jack, Cam, Andre, Naomi, Anahita, Aron, Louis, Alice, Danya, Cecelia, Briar and everyone I've forgotten (sorry!) everyone that's listened and showed support.

Making this has been so rewarding, and I'm excited for more!
