Adornedable Duos by Killick Hinds & Heikki Ruokangas
This album came to be, spontaneously, as a result of a conversation about Metallica's Master of Puppets. Adornedable Duos is not the only music to hold that distinction, but the premier '80s thrash metal catalyst has likely never resulted in anything like this. The sensibilities of Finnish jazz/avant-garde guitarist Heikki Ruokangas and Appalachian Trance Metal maker Killick Hinds from the US here combine in a liminal space of calm-before-the-storm lyricism, stochastic lightness, and textured simultaneity. The effect is the promise of summer's rejuvenation tempered by gathering clouds on the horizon, sweet and sour, informed by promise, beauty, loss, and transformation. Thank you for listening!
