The Devil from smooches by Kami

the devil kisses flames into the palms of my hands, and i turn my bones into kindling for him
He peels the skin of my back and carves his name into the matchstick heartwood of my spine
I ask him
”do you love me?”
and he just smiles, saying
”did you think there was something here to love?”
here’s the thing,
he’s a desert and I am half way wasteland so we bleed the holy water out of my wrist while god is growing flowers between my loves shoulder blades
here’s the thing,
I am a desert and god is tired of sending the rain
I ask
”do you love me now?”
and The Devil laughs
I ask
”do you love me now?”
and he presses blood into my eyes with fury in his fingertips
I ask
”do you love me now?”
and he whispers fire, saying
”there is nothing here to love”
here’s the thing,
I am just a body with his name written where I can’t reach
here’s the thing,
he’s a snake that only stays to swallow perfect things and he’s gone
and because I am just a body and I am just a body and I am just a body and here’s the thing,
