Junk Pilot’s self-titled debut finds our intrepid sonic explorers in the year 2366, a long way from Seattle. A wormhole they’ve opened with subsonic waves has stranded them in orbit around a sister planet – Akka, known as the galaxy’s biggest waste dump. The good news is the band has secured exclusive rights to exploit one of Akka’s unique riches: a treasure of discarded sound and music equipment from 20th century Earth.

Without much evidence, future rock historians contend that an elaborate blackmail scheme involving an eggplant sandwich and mechanical puffin can account for much of the band’s early success in space mining. Sometimes outspoken and chatty, Doug Brody and Chris Brush of Junk Pilot have only mumbled or looked away when asked about it.

Over the course of 11 ephemeral tracks, Junk Pilot’s sonic salvage operation floats disheveled dreams in an unhurried fashion across a modulating landscape of memory-filtered home planet vibrations. The debut album veers unevenly from languid danceability to sinuous melody, acoustic sun beams to ominous machinations, inevitably shot through with dazzling cosmic flux.
