Extended Proximity by June Jones
Unable to stay quiet for long, June Jones has a few more things to say on Extended Proximity, an expansion upon her ARIA-charting EP released through Chapter Music in June of this year. The prolific and idiosyncratic alt pop auteur is adding four tracks to the world of Proximity, including the new single ‘Me in 3D’ – a bittersweet dance pop contemplation of queer party power dynamics – as well as remixes by friends Katie Dey and Geryon (the latter’s remix featuring a showstopping verse by Sydney rapper Jamaica Moana), and a rework she did of crowd favourite Looking out for an Angel. Equal parts continuation, collaboration, and a hint of what’s to come in the future, Extended Proximity is an emotional, sexy, romantic, and playful pop record encased in detailed and bold electronic production.
The release of these songs marks June’s return to her hometown of Naarm, after living and working for 18 months on Gadigal land in Sydney, where she wrote, recorded, and produced these tracks as well as two standalone singles, Good Girl and Bubblegum, released through Chapter Music. While in Sydney, June also performed at venues across the city, including Sydney Town Hall, Sydney Recital Hall, Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Lansdowne, the Bearded Tit, and more. She also began her DJ career, playing at a handful of queer parties, and took part in songwriting camps, including APRA Pride Songhubs (curated by Troye Sivan) in 2023 and One Off Traks in 2024.
