Fertile Ground from Sacred Beast by Joseph Gently

I wrote Fertile Ground early last year while thinking deeply about the increasing existential threats to LGBTQ+ folks, especially trans people, that abound in the current social zeitgeist.
While most people I encounter as a trans person are either happy for me or indifferent to my gender experience, there is a growing faction of people who are more comfortable expressing their disgust, fear and willful misunderstanding. The impacts of this are felt most deeply, I fear, by trans children, who are just trying to survive as authentic beings, and who have a lot to teach the rest of us as they come of age in an often hostile, chaotic world.

Fertile Ground calls to the spirits of our trans elders, who lived secret lives and died violent deaths. They prioritized authenticity and walked with a dignity that no one could take from them.
