Original Daemons by Johnny Larkin

Johnny Larkin is a guitarist and songwriter from New York and New Jersey who has been in and out of the local music scenes for over 20 years. Recently, an Igloo cooler full of Johnny's deteriorating cassette masters was found in the basement of an old band members house. The tapes yielded over 50 songs, most of which were too destroyed to mix down properly. Original Daemons is select collection of the best of the surviving 4-track recordings which dates back to the 1999 era. Almost lost forever, these demos are literally diamonds in the rough, showcasing some truly original songs with cryptic lyrics, beautiful melodies, and amazing guitar playing. Every track has it's own personal splendor and the lo-fi quality, disheveled recording techniques and rough performances only add to their wonderful allure. The beauty of these songs shine through their gruff form and are proof that the universe just won't let a good song die. As an added bonus, the last 2 tracks (also found on the tapes) are songs written and sung by Johnny's long time songwriting and performing partner Lonnie Rutledge, aka Lxnnnie. Johnny plays lead guitar and bass on these 2 songs which were most likely demos for their band at the time, Sunshine Flipside. Altogether, Original Daemons is a super cool find and a true gem for fans of great songwriting and lo-fi music.
