The locations that inspire the tracks for Perambulations I are places that have a sense of mystery and timelessness. There are the stone circles of Nine Ladies on Stanton Moor in the Peak District and the nearby Doll Tor. There is a track inspired by Lud’s Church, also in the Peak District and the evocative and mysterious Seven Stones of Hordron on Hordron Moor.
In each track, I have used ‘moss tones’. These moss tones are motifs, sounds, textures, strategies, field recordings, and, to some extent bind the tracks together. The sounds of all the tracks will hopefully convey the sense of mystery; the sense of story; and the sense of time.
For all of the tracks on Perambulations I, I hope they encourage people to visit the places both in their imaginations and for real.
John has been exploring electronic sound for nearly 50 years. His first encounter was with an early valve version of a Watkins Electronic Music Copicat, a violin with a guitar pick up and an effects pedal, synthesisers the size of old telephone switchboards reel to reel tape recorders with 10 yard tape loops around jam jars. John has worked in the field of neuro-diversity and autism in particular.
