The track Subby was made by first setting up four bass notes for the Subharmonicon to loop over, and a faster pattern for its other sequencer to play over the top of. I then recorded different versions of it into the Boss RC-505mkII looper. I used the frequency of one of the sub-oscillators to occasionally shift the rhythm of the higher sequence, thus making different patterns.
I used the Drumbrute for its tasty kick drum, which in the middle I added some bass overdrive to via the EHX Bass Soul Food.
I also used various effects on the RC-505 to mess around with the loops - a phaser at times and some stutter effects etc. Then I just brought the different loops in and out, along with muting the kick drum every now and then, like a good techno producer should.
For Subby Part II, I turned the tempo right down, and it became more of a strange background soundtrack. I had already made a weird patch on the DFAM with noises that didn't sound like drums at all. I manually triggered one step that had a funny sound to it for a long time. About halfway through I brought the Mother-32 out to play, making weird woums, bleeps and sweeps.
For Dubby, I cranked up the reverb on the mixer, recorded some weird DFAM sounds from the previous strange patch, layered in a nice wub from the M-32 and then brought the different loops in and out on the RC-505.
