Originally from outside Liberty, Missouri and a graduate of University of North Texas Jazz Studies Program, he has since been growing in the Kansas City thriving jazz scene, focusing on a modern and creative KC style. His live band, the Jeff Shirley Trio, is playing all-original jazz compositions at Green Lady Lounge every week.
