“Janitors” is a song about finding yourself. It’s also a song about when you and all of your closest friends are somehow janitors at the same time in New York City, sweeping the floors of bookstores and furniture shops. I was going to school to be a teacher and working wherever I could to help pay the rent.
We shared a bedroom, ate what and when we could, got our hearts broken, and had the best time, never taking anything too seriously. Looking back, I could see what an important time this was for me, and I had a lot of fun writing about it.
