“Did” is the song you put on when your heart is broken, you’re soaking your sorrows in a warm bath, and the tears won’t stop streaming down your face. Truly the perfect backing track for crying yourself to sleep. You can feel yourself holding your breath from the moment the song begins. The lyrics are heart-wrenching and deeply relatable. The song speaks of heartbreak from the perspective of the person walking away from the relationship. It explores the intricacy of wanting to stay but knowing you cannot save a person who does not wish to be saved.
Jacqueline recorded “Did” at the piano in her family home. It is the place where almost every one of her songs was written. The song was recorded here to give the sensation of sitting next to Jacqueline on the piano bench, hearing her share the song with you for the first time. The vocals are mixed in such a way that you feel immersed in the lyrics and layers of voices.
Unlike anything Jacqueline has released before, the music demonstrates her thoughtful and luscious vocal production complemented by her sparse and delicate piano playing.
