Here it is: The Self-Titled.
The defining artistic statement with all of the ambitious excess and aching vulnerability that comes with it.
I submit this as a new standard for my art - the point where skill finally catches up to taste. A landmark in my years-long mission to weave my life into my sound.
I submit this as an homage to SOPHIE, Arca, Wendy Carlos and the divine lineage of all transfeminine sound sculptors that came before me. A full-throated, heart-body-and-soul contribution to the wellspring of beauty we excavated from the ruins of marginalization.
I submit this as a love letter to hip-hop and the canon of visionary black artists like Ms. Lauryn Hill, J Dilla, Kendrick, D'Angelo, Sampha, MIKE, Earl Sweatshirt, and Slauson Malone who have deeply inspired me throughout my life - without whom the specific blend of my work could not exist.
Finally, I submit this as my own personal pop ideal: a glistening, homespun odyssey that shows up unabashedly queer and wholly unconcerned with neat boundaries nor commercial success.
I put everything I have into this. I do it for the love of the game. And regardless of what comes of it, I don't plan on stopping until I die. I hope you catch some of me before then.
