Heal Heathen by Anthon Usher Shield

HEAL HEATHEN is titled in reference to HEATHEN EARTH, THROBBING GRISTLE’s 10th studio album. It contains 11 tracks, each one carefully chosen and worked out by ANTHON USHER SHIELD and crew.

1. SIX MINUTES AFTER PEACEFUL DEATH. (Usher/ Jenn Module).

The first track is taking its inspiration in both COIL’s piece FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER VIOLENT DEATH and in PETER “SLEAZY” CHRISTOPHERSON untimed death in November 2010. On the days following this tragical news, JENN MODULE proposed to record a tribute to COIL and TG co founder. This track is one of the many featured on the album. Opening with the traditional Tibetan Bells on a NEUBAUTEN-like rhythm, the track enfold with grief-stricken strings. Then the “Save Yourselves” sample from Rev William H. BARRIER elevates it to higher grounds.

2. LUFTHANSA. (Usher/ Ales)

Unearthly musical phrases rising on the horizon, Lufthansa open its wings as EMELY VOGT read an excerpt from KAFKA’s Journal on the dissolution of soul into body. We leave the Heathen Earth and fly toward the Sound Healing spheres

3. TRAUMMASCHINE. (Usher)

This track uses the same cut up methods used by WILLIAM BURROUGHS. Here, musical phrases meet the author recounting of a dream sang in bits and out of order. It was use by the “ Late CPM” as a meditation method.

4. COLERE FROIDE. (Usher/Mnomized)

« Cold is the Righteous wrath » says the BARDO TODOL “for it gives the energy to heal”. This track is a meditation on this maxim. Waves after waves, in a slow but steady progression, the worm comes out of the fruit for its metamorphosis.

5. LUANG TRABANG MORNING. (Usher)

Composed from recording made in Lao (Buddhist chants, crickets, wind, water, voices and ambiances), like the Small Vehicle (Sravaka), like dance, like footsteps in the snow, like blissful Childs laughing in an elevator…

6. WAR INSIDE TV. (Usher)

Based on TG’s piece “War is inside the tv”, drones, sequences and dreambeats from this track are set to clean out our TV stained eyes and heart.

7. HE. (Usher/ Wehwalt)

As for “Six minutes…) HE was composed by USHER and WEHWALT as a tribute on the day following SLEAZY’s death. First collaboration from several others on the WUM project with MNOMIZED or on the CHRYSAOR PARAPHILE project with ZREEN TOYS (KULTURTERRORISM 2011)

8. THE LITTLE GIRL SMILED. (Usher)

This track is a straight reference to TG’s The Old Man Smilied on HEATHEN EARTH and was composed in La, then recorded in Kyoto at SUNAO INAMI. The female voice at the end of the track is the one of a smiling girl encountered in the LUANG PRABANG hotel.


9. CORNETS IN HEAVEN. (Usher)

Cornet and Cornea… Introduced by a psalmodic chant by VERA (DIE PUPPE) and followed by a long incantation sang eyes closed: a vision of the veiling voice.

10. JIM JONES (disliked the Babies). (Usher)

Based on the original recording of the Reverend JIM JONES massacre, ANTHON USHER SHIELD delivers in this track his sonic obsessions mix to a hint of paranoia, cranked mystic and “magikal” drones etc.


11. TUE DANS L’ŒUF. (Usher)

Ominous and imperious, here comes the Unborn Child, never buried, nor grieved like an imperfect impression, vanished and extinct. But in a corner of the sky or inside the depth of your skull, it endures and thrives. It’s a one-sided love or maybe just nothing at all. Believe your therapy is over if you may. Or ?
