STILL ALIVE by ILL AL

The production of STILL ALIVE took place over 365 days, one beat a week for 52 weeks. This curated selection of 33 derives from that body of work. This project is a sample based production, all of the vinyl samples used were hand-selected by DJ Organic from his personal collection during the Sunday School Beats project (with the exception of tracks 2 & 21).

The artwork was created by Abe Zucca during a series of 4 paintings. Acrylic on wood, 18' X 24' from a pose of ILL AL at the Abe Zucca Art Gallery in downtown Phoenix, AZ.

Album pairings and intentions:

Pair with a dry red wine, something with peppery notes. Add a merlot cheese, fig spread and an uncured salami.

For spirits choose a whiskey sour and possibly pair with blood orange.

Choose a light pilsner in a very cold glass if beer is your choice.

This album is excellent for road trips, the backdrop of a deep conversation or a friendly get together. You may find this a perfect companion for walks, bike rides or a workout. STILL ALIVE was created on a Native Instruments MK3 & M32, AKAI MPC Live 2 - mixed stand alone and mastered in iZotope Ozone 9.

Essentially unground and much fabled about, Alan is a seasoned southwestern treasure trove of gritty hip hop records both released and bootlegged alike.

Alan came up in inner city Phoenix, AZ in the mid 80s and 90s by way of Redwood City, CA.
