ILKAMANIA by ILKAMA

ILKAMANIA is an ode to the creative process, more precisely the moments where it somehow feels like the creation is happening almost by itself. That the music just falls into your head like already perfectly formed, complete ideas and you’re just a vessel for it, jotting it down before it slips away. That is what I love the most about music making, those moments of euphoric «mania» where you are just completely immersed in it for hours on end, letting the sonic material lead the way, telling you what to do, where to go with it. It’s in this part of the creative process where I feel the most liberated, the most joy. All the tracks on this album have that in common, that they all came to be in more or less one sitting, and for that reason I connect them to a sense of freedom and in some instances escapism.

Sonically, I find inspiration in future soul, LA Beat, hip hop, rnb, ambient, electro-acoustic music, UK Garage, glitch, drum'n'bass and pop. I love all kinds of music and bring everything I like with me into my own sonic expression. My work is quite personal and self-referential in that it features lots and lots of field recordings and samples of family and dear friends. My approach to music creation is very collage-based, asymmetrical and improvisational. I often recycle and rework different sonic materials and samples from previous released and unreleased work as to create my own personal sonic space.
