DIY by Ian Kitney
DIY was inspired by a need to do things myself to the best of my abilities. Whether fixing a hedge trimmer or recording an album, I have had to rely on my own resolve, partly out of a stubbornness to ask for help, partly out of a lack of ability in Japanese to ask for the required help, and partly out of a challenge to prove that if I can do it, anyone can and should do it.
The album is consciously lo-fi, conspicuously humble in its modest sonic, dynamic and creative ranges, and decidedly simple in structure and accessibility.
In most cases, there was an urgency to get the song out of my head and into an audible format, and this is evident in some, if not many, being not so polished in their arrangement, structure and sound.
