Sugar by Hot Singles

I love perfume commercials. When a company can’t directly show you what their product smells like, they just give up entirely on trying to convince you of anything and instead show you a celebrity walking through the desert voguing and getting splashed with soymilk before you suddenly see a bottle, advertising "Pisse de Chien" or something to let you know you weren't watching an art film. It’s creative chaos at it’s finest, because it never seems to matter whether something works or not, only that you do it.

For Sugar I originally wanted to capture the sort of pretentious art vibes of perfume commercials, before realizing what I actually wanted was the creative chaos, the energy, and the element of surprise, so I spent way too much of my time thinking about the listener experience. The songs on Sugar have lots of moments that are built to catch first time listeners off guard and hype up anyone who already knows what's coming. I had to aggressively keep some of these moments a secret so I didn't accidentally spoil them before the album released. Hopefully it pays off. If not, feel free to splash me with soymilk.
