So Far by Honey Smugglers

`So Far' is the long lost debut album by Honey Smugglers. An album that was never released at the time, but many pristine studio recordings were made along the way. This is the culmination of the 3 years writing, rehearsing, recording and gigging that they did between 1988-1991, and many of the songs will be familiar to anyone who saw one or more of the 125 gigs they performed at this time.

The 12 tracks were carefully chosen and sequenced by the band as the best representation of their achievements, and what comes across is the sheer diversity of their song writing and performance, from the English psychedelia influenced lead track `She Doesn't Know' to the 6 minute indie dancefloor filler `Listen' (Heard here for the first time in it's original and definitive version).

With one foot firmly in the Pop scene (ie they knew how to write a good tune) and the other in a more musically expansive, lyrical world the Smugglers were certainly of their time but in many ways ahead of it too, as the arrival of Britpop a few years later would testify.

Honey Smugglers were a vital part of the thriving London indie scene in the late 80's and early 90's, recording 2 well received EPs, and perhaps best remembered for their indie dance classic `Listen' in 1990. In recent times they have featured on some five in depth period compilations from the respected Cherry Red label, the latest of which `From Baggy To Britpop' was released in October 2024.
