Tributaries presents an energetic set of original compositions featuring a blend of lyrical melodies, lush arrangements, and hard-hitting group improvisation. Plotnick's music is inspired by pioneers in modern jazz such as the Brian Blade Fellowship, Gerald Clayton & Wayne Shorter as well as his own experience playing ambient, rock, and improvised music. He envisions these compositions ideally as 21st-century jazz standards, with an emphasis on short forms that invite improvisation and artistic freedom.
