Lost Wisdom by The Remakquels

Lost Wisdom is the debut album by the Remakquels and is the follow up to their 2022 self-titled EP.

The Remakquels find comfort and sadness in tired vinyl and cassette manipulation and create lofi sound poems that could easily be twinned with fuzzy and forgotten VHS shorts.

In 12 tracks across 45 minutes, Lost Wisdom explores spectres of personal trauma – from illness and recovery, to haunted memory and imagination – by way of folklore, cinema and literature.

The Remakquels live up to their name, remaking and creating sonic sequels that wouldn’t exist without a relationship with its source material – the majority of which dates back to archival project work circa 2014 – and an intertextual dialogue across books, films, histories, healthcare and psychogeography.

Lost Wisdom exists in a hyper aware state where sounds are slowed and smudged, grooves depressed, melodies stretched, and sad static, foggy drones and warped tones ring out.

The album comes with the Remakquels 8-track debut EP as a bonus – an early indicator of their cut and paste in medias res vignettes.

Also included is Actress in an Imaginary Place, a 15-minute recording of the Remakquels that showcases their more noise-centric live set. It features manipulated elements from both releases and soundscapes referenced in the zine that comes with the physical edition.

In tandem with Lost Wisdom, the additional tracks are sequenced to create a Remakquels double feature experience.

The Remakquels are Hope Vitti and Lux Wanderer. They formed at film school over a bond of no wave music and new wave cinema. FKA the Belmondoes, the pair now create and share sounds remotely.
