Xibalba by Hawkes River

The composition, recording, and overall concept of this album was heavily influenced by the following books:

1. Maya: Secrets of their Ancient World, by Justin Jennings, Martha Cuevas Garcia, and Roberto Lopez Bravo.This is a guide to an exhibit of the same name, co-produced by the Royal Ontario Museum, the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and Mexico's Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia (National Institute of Anthropology and History).

2. Maya to Aztec: Ancient Mesoamerica Revealed, by Professor Edwin Barnhart. A collection of essays and lectures by the Director of the Maya Exploration Center, "an institution dedicated to the study of ancient Maya civilization." Extremely dense, but carefully researched and expertly presented. This is part of the Great Courses series.

3. Spooky Lakes: 25 Strange and Mysterious Lakes That Dot Our Planet, by Geo Rutherford. This is a companion to Rutherford's TikTok series, "Spooky Lake Month". Although meant for a younger audience, this book contains some fascinating details about the cenotes of Central America.
