Nowhere Patches by Ben Wheeler

Nowhere Patches draws from the music of spaces and places both undefined and obvious.
A continuation of a practice of mine I started more than a decade ago,
the foundation of each track was the influence of a particular instrument or characteristic from disparate musical locales.
This time, the process was centered around a growing array of Eurorack modules, the number of which doubled in size over the recording of the album. Each track includes a different configuration of modules and,
with the exception of some sparse synth lines and a few guitar tracks,
the sounds of Nowhere Patches are almost exclusively modular synthesis.

The modules collected during the recording process also contributed to the theme of the album,
a confluence of places and spaces that makes it hard to pinpoint a single origin.
These instruments were designed and constructed by small, independent inventors from around the globe, each one injecting some element of their surroundings into their craft.
My modular rig includes modules from the US (Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Denver, Austin), The UK, Germany, Thailand, The Netherlands, Lithuania, and Italy.
In particular, I want to thank Zlob Modular and Noisereap, two companies whose modules are featured on multiple tracks of Nowhere Patches and were a great inspiration during the composition process.
