The Ghost from Dry Spell by Ghost Town Remedy

This is a song about the (emotionally) violent ending of a codependent relationship. When you are in this sort of unhealthy relationship the other person becomes your world, and your meaning for existence. They become your identity. This is not a good thing and the majority of the time a codependent affair implodes on itself because one or the other finally gets fed up enough to end it. The girl this song was about was my everything, and my addiction. Things unfurled quickly when the cheating and lying started. Love rapidly turned to betrayal and hate. I said many things I wish I hadn’t. Looking back I’m glad this relationship ended because it allowed me to suffer an Ego-Death of sorts and begin the long journey of finding myself and who I really want to be in this life, not what someone else wants me to be. You can’t be with someone who is constantly trying to change you and be happy. The main premise behind the song was when I was not in such a good place about all of it and it is most definitely written as a FUCK YOU. “The ghost of you is swimming in my head, I’ll make the most of you before I end up dead.” This line from the chorus sums up the moment when love turns directly to hate and the daggers start flying. But, it’s not about wanting the other person to die, you just want them to hurt as bad as you are hurting. When you seek this kind of vengeance all you really get is more hurt and sorrow. The only way to get over this sort of thing is to just let it go. Let all the hate go. Let all the barbs that were thrown go. Finally, you have to forgive the other person even if they didn’t ask for it, and most importantly you have to forgive yourself. The bridge starts to get there. “You haunt my dreams, set me free.” This is just the ultimate begging of the soul for relief from all of the trauma. Trauma has a weird way of haunting everything you do, and carries over into every aspect of your life.
