“Lavender” steps into new terrain for singer-songwriter Gemma Laurence. A pulsing indie folk-rock anthem reminiscent of Phoebe Bridgers or Big Thief, “Lavender” is a song celebrating queerness, transness, and femininity. A love song of sorts, “Lavender” was initially written as a simple banjo tune celebrating her best friend, but quickly evolved into a song that encompassed more widely the experience of coming out and embracing it.
