A collection of experimental soundscapes and character themes created for The Lacemakers; an Arts Council funded research and development project led by artist and puppeteer Daisy Jordan.
Daisy contacted me to ask if I would like to be involved as a musician during this research and development phase of the project. We met over zoom to discuss ideas and to find ways of collaborating remotely, then through the course of Daisy's research we came up with some character motifs and ideas for me to explore musically and this collection of scratch pieces is the result of my experiments for the project.
The scratch music arrangements I have contributed to this phase of the project draw strongly from traditional songs collected from lace makers and from traditional songs connected to lace making.

The Lacemakers project is inspired by lacemaking lore and history. This phase of the project entailed Daisy's research about the history of lacemaking (particularly when it was handmade, as a cottage industry), the folklore surrounding it and engagement with modern day lacemakers and lace historians. Daisy's long term aim is to produce a puppetry-led piece inspired by the research collected during this phase of the project.
