Pass not by, Stranger! Stop! Silently bare your head, drop a stone upon her grave, and make a wish straight from your heart. The Spirit of Eternal Youth and Happiness hovers near to grant the wishes of all who love the hills and valleys of her native home.
Trahlyta was a Cherokee woman who lived around Cedar Mountain, uphill from current-day Dahlonega (town of gold) in north Georgia...she loved to explore the mountain and bathe in the natural springs, and her stone pile grave marker is in the middle of a highway intersection, where travelers have been adding a rock for 200 years as a folk tradition.
Her story may not be unique, but nonetheless has been an inspiration during a difficult time, when I was diving through Walasi-Yi in the lower Appalachians, wading through streams alone and passed by the stone pile.
Such a peaceful place, I felt a warmth rising from below...
