FKOFd020 by The Illuminated (Remixes)
"So here we are, nearly two years in and already celebrating our 20th release on our FKOFd digital imprint. We thought we’d push the boat out with this release; we wanted to do something a bit different given we’ve got this far and released so much amazing music. While we’ve championed debut material from new artists individually on our roster for the last two releases, FKOFd020 sees us welcome three new producers and one of our longterm collaborators back onto the label…
“You’ll know, had you spent longer than few minutes following what we do, how much love we’ve got for The Netherlands’ The Illuminated. Yuri, Joep and Maarten have, without doubt, beaten every expectation of ours since we first featured them back in May of 2012. The trio have released a steady stream of ridiculously impressive material on some of bass music’s most respected labels – not forgetting their forays on both our FKOFUn/Known albums and their FKOFd006 EP. The boys hit us up and suggested doing a remix release – we thought that’d be a pretty decent way to celebrate our 20th EP…
“Istanbul’s Ex Nihilo opens FKOF020 with a rework of The Illuminated’s Vintage. It’s a refreshing yet mix – with ample awareness of the original but definitely its own quality work. The Illuminated step up for the second inclusion, firing all barrels at their new de_dust2 version. This one’s been a firm DJ favourite for a while now and we’re delighted to have it as part of the release! Track three sees us welcome Dane RDG to the family – one of our most respected collaborators as a musician and label owner. RDG’s C11H17NO3 Psychonauts remix was the last edition to the release but is possibly our favourite. The tension inside! Madness. Last, but definitely not least, is Sepia with his sublime HMU remix. It’s everything you’d expect from the producer: luscious atmospheres, soothing sub lines and extra crisp percussion. Sepia outdid our expectations with his effort and we’re stoked to be releasing his material again…
“Instead of three original productions and a remix, we’ve gone for three remixes and a VIP/ new version for our 20th EP. A slightly different approach to what we’d have expected to do – but one that allows us to welcome three new producers to the label alongside one of our favourite artists. Thanks, as always, to everyone supporting – this one’s for you!”
