We wrote this song from the perspective of Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). I considered the experience of traumatized or victimized people who build and hang on to a hope for connectedness with their abusive or inconsistent families. It also acknowledges the rage that frequently accompanies temporary moments of familial connection followed by disruption.
