V1:
a simple country man, he doesn't say much
if you show up uninvited you'll be meeting his guns
he lives on the mountain in the middle of nowhere
livin' life the way he wants without a single care

there seems to come a day a few times a year
when Uncle James says "I've got to get the hell out of here
don't wait up for me go ahead and hit the sack
cause I'm headed to the bank, don't know when I'll be back

Uncle James went down into town
to the bar with all the people gathered around
everyone was so glad that he came
cause it's always fun to hang out with Uncle James

V2:
he chose a table in the back, and said "I'll sit right here,
hey waiter can you bring me just a couple of beers"
he sat around with everyone and heard the music play
yeah he loved it in that place, but still had nothing to say

v3:
feeling pretty good he said "it's time to go"
so back up the mountain Uncle James went home
we didn't want to see him leave but we had nothing to fear
cause we knew that we would see him same time next year
