REACH by fatal oscillation

REACH is a physical synthesis of the deepest and highest parts of myself, of depression and aspiration, of confusion and clarity, of past and present. Drums are the roots, piano the buds. This album grew from the desire to record the state of my practice, work in the imaginary space between composition and improvisation, and increase my reach. Just as each word leads to the next, forming a sentence, paragraph, and description, each movement of the body responds to energy, sounds, and phrases, creating tracks, discs, and this album.

Listening is a spiritual mode of being and not a neutral one. It is a choice, and improvisation is a commitment to and expression of this choice. Only vulnerable self-expression can open up the noise.

Life is a creative process, and music will always grow and change with the seasons. There is no gain and no loss. It is hard to understand this, or know my place within the broader culture of music, but it is as real as a lineage.
