We took your daddy’s car and drove north
To that seaside town
We had never spent a weekend together
But we decided to give it a try
We arrived in the middle of night
With our heads full of ghosts, full of serial killers
But then you came on me on a beach
And we walked and talked and saw the colours of dawn

But I’ve rarely seen a dawn as bright

In that seaside town

It’s strange how tenderness can be born
Among rocks that sharp and waves that wild
How many things can be told with a kiss
On the back of the neck and a holding of hands
We decided to stay one more night
Who would go back to city lights
With all these stars above?
We got drunk to cheap cocktails
And walked back and forth those steep narrow streets

Driving back I didn’t say a word,
I’d rather hum to some tearjerkers
You tried hard to cheer me up but it was vain
I couldn’t help feeling gloomy
I knew one day we’d fall apart
And our little romance would just just fade into dust
All that’s left now are some photos
Where we look sunburnt and foolishly happy
