Aptly titled, this 50-minute composition by EMERGE takes the listener on a journey of the sonic imagination that often conjures up the idea of alien, perhaps even extraterrestrial places captured through field recordings.
While many releases by EMERGE foreground the dark, moody side of drone music, this one works with microsounds that refuse to coalesce into any ‘musical’ structures. They do have a drama all of their own, sometimes merging in zones of density and ungrouping again, much like ambient sound does in a soundscape recording. Therefore, this piece helps the focused listener to create an imaginary landscape in their minds, a landscape never seen before – which is pretty much the definition of ‘terra incognita.’
