Akheron from Occam's Razor by Elliott Sharp

Akheron was composed for JACK Quartet in 2013 and premiered by them in that year. The name comes from the god who ruled the underworld river and lake of pain. It was considered by the Greeks to be a place of healing, not punishment, for cleansing and purging. The work was composed as an elegy to persons both close to me personally but also remote yet whose lives and deaths affected me deeply.

Elliott Sharp: composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, author, leads Orchestra Carbon, Tectonics and Terraplane with compositional strategies including fractal geometry, chaos theory, and genetic metaphors as well as new techniques for graphic notation to yield work that catalyzes a synesthetic approach to musicmaking as well as functioning as retinal art.
