I was home in my room writing a letter
The lamp started flickering and then it went out
The moon washed the walls, and the wind moaned unfettered
My voice it was frozen though I longed to cry out
There’s a cold wind blowing over England
There’s a wind blowing cold through my heart
There’s a cold wind blowing over England
There’s a wind blowing up from the underground dark

I looked in the mirror and saw there a stranger
The eyes looking back were none that I knew
The night it was aching and seeping with danger
It wrapped itself round me and then I fell through
The black room was filled with murderous angels
They called out my name, but I could not reply
Their faces were flickering in hundreds of candles
Their arms were outstretched, up to the sky
There’s a cold wind blowing over England
There’s a wind blowing cold through my heart
There’s a cold wind blowing over England
There’s a wind blowing up from the underground dark

One then approached me, here eyes glowed like embers
Her hair spiralled down like snakes to the ground
She said you’ve come here so that you remember
Power abides in this blackness you’ve found
There’s a cold wind blowing over England
There’s a wind blowing cold through my heart
There’s a cold wind blowing over England
There’s a wind blowing up from the underground dark

My voice then returned and I heard myself singing
The notes were so clear, both firey and cold
She raised up her arms and the room started fading
It was then that I knew her face was my own
There’s a cold wind blowing over England
