II - Knightmare
By crackling coals, our knight in soft recline
Reflects upon his past’s blood spangled tale,
Written with a thousand cuts in steel.
The cuirass’ face now slid by Chronos’ tooth,
Still bears his image in the burnished plate.
As embers whisper him their last farewell,
He shuts his eyes on throngs of shiny stars.
On morrows night a feast of kings awaits,
Yet now he sleeps amongst the beasts of Pan.
O beast! Such goodly creature, bold and true,
Shall I compare thee to a morrow’s man,
A sinning fugitive of paradise?
But hear, in Hypnos soft embrace, the sound,
A treble laughter as of devil spawn,
Surrounds the knight, paralysed by curse.
Goblins drag him from the homely light,
Into the gape of mythic forest, black.
A roar, beneath him shakes the mossy soil,
And from the ground a jaw of death arise.
Like drops of water in Poseidon’s realm
As many silver fangs the mouth doth show,
Just ere the fearing knight is swallowed whole,
And falls like lifeless lead in hellish night.
Aeons seem to pass in thunder clouds,
Ere tortured Dufwa sees the shadows break,
And take him to a sunlit battlefield,
Where legions gallop to their destined glory.
Passing, as with wings, the many men,
Until he reach the leader of the band,
A Knight with lightning haste against his foe.
As Dufwa’s fingers reach the soldier’s nape,
Like owls, he turns his helmet head around,
Astonishing Sir Lars with his visage,
Where eyes should meet his own instead he saw,
Two shining orbs, as radiant as the Sun.
