Patchouli, Dré Matsumoto’s debut album, is an uplifting collection with Matsumoto sounding funkier than ever on all instruments, available as a digital download, CD, and Vinyl/LP. Patchouli includes the singles “Alex M.,” “Minato Mirai 21,” “Urban Tower,” “Patchouli,” and “Osaka Dotonbori.”

Recorded at AJAMU Productions between January 2025–May 2025. Matsumoto’s jazz funk fusion comes through loud and clear on these original compositions. On his "Bayside Blue," "Anpanman’s Revenge," "Patchouli," and "Osaka Dotonbori," Matsumoto’s head bopping, jazz funk bass playing shows off his admiration for early Ron Carter albums and the jazz fusion artist Christian McBride. On "Hai Dozo," "Alex M.," “Minato Mirai 21,” and "Urban Tower," Matsumoto’s deep musicianship and jazz styling show off his admiration for Esperanza Spalding. Matsumoto’s deep take on "Sakuragicho Station" is a great tribute to Miles Davis reminiscent of his “Big Fun” album.
This collection only hints at what Dré Matsumoto has to offer in the future. Dré Matsumoto celebrates his love of jazz funk fusion music and Japan on, PATCHOULI. Features jazz funk arrangements by Matsumoto himself.

Dré Matsumoto is an American-Canadian residing in Yokohama. The bassist and multi-instrumentalist is known for his jazz-fusion-funk.
