I've been in a nasty beat block lately, have't really been able to make anything, been way too busy working full time and going to school, having way too many mental breakdowns. Hopefully I'll be able to make some music soon, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, I've enjoyed making music basically my entire life, but I started making beats when I was about 12. I'm 25 now, and sometimes it feels like I know only as much as I did back then. I have never had any formal training outside of like, middle school and high school band.. and it's not like I was particularly talented, otherwise I'd still be playing drums lol. I wanted to be a comic book artist originally but I'm awful at drawing, so I started making shitty beats instead. I used to make beats with a website called Audiotool (it still exists and is free to use btw) and then when I was 17 I completely stopped making music entirely. Then right before I turned 20 I bought my own laptop for the first time (before I borrowed my moms work laptop or made beats at the damn library) and then tried getting back into my old passion.
There is nothing more humbling than being bad at something you used to be good at, and it took me about a year to be able to finish a song at all... but since 2021 I have been trying to make beats that are at least sorta cool. Most of these tracks suck but there are a few I still like. Def listen to this on shuffle. Have fun guessing which tracks I made as a teen vs stuff I've made more recently, it shouldn't be too hard haha.
If you get anything out of this, thank you! Again, hopefully I'll be inspired to make some music soon. In the meantime, if you're able to catch me DJ!
