Release date - August 15th at the PROFANE EXISTENCE 36th year anniversary party during SKULLFEST 15
DEADSKY have been developing a hardcore following over the last three years and have put together a massively crushing LP. Taking elements from old school D-beat, crust, and thrash metal DEADSKY have a sound that is almost underground 80’s metal but yet is still punk as fuck. Political charged blackened crust that is as equally uncompromising as it is devastating. The opening track “Class War Now” starts off with a very SLAYER meets SWORDWIELDER vibe before steamrolling into raging d-beat crustcore that takes no prisoners. It only progresses from there as metallic riffs, thundering drums, chilling samples, and hardcore breakdowns are combined with immensely huge vocals to unite in an all attack against the system. You can easily tell the band put a great deal of time and energy into this release. True to the DIY spirit DEADSKY recored every bit of this record themselves in a home studio and then had it mastered for vinyl by our good friend Jay Mathersoon at Jam Room Studios. Joe B’s cryptic artwork matches the sound perfectly creating a modern day masterpiece. “Reapers Call” will be an available on LP and Cassette this summer on the legendary PROFANE EXISTENCE.
Following review by Eric Good (AUS ROTTEN / CAUSTIC CHRIST)
“Reapers Call is the debut LP from Pittsburgh’s crust juggernaut DEADSKY that features members of APPALACHIAN TERROR UNIT, SUBMACHINE, MOWER, and INVALID.
DEADSKY have a heavy, mean and dark apocalyptic sound, a harken back to when the city of Pittsburgh also felt heavy, mean, dark and apocalyptic -an age when the sky was filled with so much smoke that noon seemed like dusk and the rivers were toxic with industrial waste. While I don’t necessarily think Pittsburgh ever had its “own sound” I do think every punk / metal band had an unavoidable grim, bleak, gritty, and sinister undertone that came naturally from our environment.
“Reapers Call" contains 9 raw and straightforward crust rippers lyrically dealing with topics such as class warfare, genetic engineering, regressive politics, capitalist greed, and genocide. The tone is immediately set with a haunting sample of a cold war era list of American cities to be targeted for annihilation. While “Reapers Call" has that unmistakable Pittsburgh grim undertone it’s also heavily influenced from UK crust and anacho-punk and gives a tip of the hat towards NYC demigods NAUSEA. Definitely a must have record for every crusty hardcore head-banging D-beat punk!”
